Are you passionate about supporting people, building community, and making a genuine difference each week?
Headway UK is looking for a reliable, friendly, and proactive Lead Volunteer to help run our welcoming Stockport drop-in sessions.
This is a rewarding opportunity to become a key part of a supportive community space where members can relax, connect, and feel valued.
About the Role
As our Lead Volunteer, you’ll play an important role in creating a warm and welcoming environment for members attending the drop-in centre. You’ll help ensure sessions run smoothly from start to finish and be a familiar, friendly face for everyone who attends.
Responsibilities include:
-
Opening and closing the drop-in centre
-
Preparing the space before members arrive
-
Ensuring the kitchen and pool table area are ready for use
-
Welcoming members and supporting sign-in
-
Making tea, chatting with members, and helping create a positive atmosphere
-
Supporting a relaxed, inclusive, and social environment
You won’t be expected to do everything alone straight away — a full transition and handover period will be provided, with guidance and support from the existing team so you feel confident in the role.
What We’re Looking For
We’re seeking someone who is:
-
Friendly, approachable, and dependable
-
Comfortable engaging with people from different backgrounds
-
Organised and able to take initiative
-
Passionate about community support and wellbeing
-
Experienced in volunteering or similar people-facing roles (previous volunteer experience is essential)
Commitment
-
Once weekly
-
12:00 PM – 3:00 PM
-
Ongoing role throughout the year
-
No sessions during Christmas and New Year week
We understand life can sometimes get busy, so some flexibility is available if you cannot commit to every single week — however, availability for most weeks is important for the continuity of the service.
Why Volunteer With Us?
This is more than just a volunteering role — it’s an opportunity to:
-
Make a meaningful impact in people’s lives
-
Build friendships and connections within the community
-
Gain leadership and facilitation experience
-
Be part of a supportive and appreciative team
-
Help create a safe, social, and welcoming space for members every week
If you’re someone who enjoys helping others, creating positive experiences, and being part of a community-focused organisation, we’d love to hear from you.
